Multicultural Values Represented in English Textbooks for Indonesian Learners: A Social Semiotic Analysis

چکیده
The social semiotic analysis in this study aims to (1) reveal what multicultural values are found ELT textbooks for ninth-grade learners, (2) explain how the texts and images analyzed present values, (3) uncover semiotics dimensions can decode values. This finds that among four discovered textbooks, responsibility world community has most frequent appearance while respect human dignity universal rights least appearance. Those presented denotatively connotatively through texts, images, texts-images. Based on findings, textbook authors recommended include more content add learning activities facilitate discussions reflections multiculturalism. In addition, research suggests English teachers who use these enable students discuss since, study, mainly connotatively.
